Are you in the 18–30 age range? Do you think young people should have more influence in civic and democratic settings? If you said "yes," here is your ideal chance!

The Consortium for Elections and Political Process Strengthening (CEPPS) seeks five young leaders from around the globe to support youth-focused democracy, rights, and governance (DRG) initiatives through its DEPP Youth Advisory Council (YAC).

This council aims to enhance the integration of youth priorities within DRG efforts led by CEPPS under the DEPP Leader with Associates Award (LWA), increasing its relevance and impact for diverse youth communities.

The YAC members will participate over a 10-month term, from approximately December 2024 to September 2025, helping CEPPS develop strategies that foster sustainable and inclusive youth engagement in DRG programs.

Principles

CEPPS is committed to collaborating with young people to create and implement programs that empower their active participation in political processes and promote environments supportive of youth leadership and representation. This approach is rooted in CEPPS' technical framework for inclusion and is guided by three key principles:

1. Recognize Youth as a Diverse Group: Youth engagement requires tailored approaches, as young people bring varied identities and experiences. CEPPS designs programs that address these differences, considering both individual and sociocultural contexts.

2. Collaborate with Youth to Develop and Implement Programs at All Levels: Through a consultative process, CEPPS involves young people at every program stage, prioritizing interventions that promote social behavior change and foster collaboration across generations at both institutional and societal levels to create supportive spaces for youth engagement.

3. Incorporate Comprehensive, Cross-Sectoral Approaches: CEPPS works across different sectors to address issues that matter to young people, linking them to opportunities for decision-making and political involvement.

Over a 10-month period (approximately December 2024 to September 2025), members of the DEPP Youth Advisory Council (YAC) will work with CEPPS to:

- Enhance CEPPS’ youth inclusion strategy by reviewing and updating it;
- Assist CEPPS’ partners in integrating youth priorities into program design and reporting by developing indicators that measure youth-centered intermediate outcomes;
- Partner with CEPPS’ technical teams to embed youth priorities into key cross-cutting focus areas;
- Create and deliver learning events and resources that improve practitioners’ understanding of the challenges facing young people in political and civic engagement, as well as effective approaches to address these challenges.

Program Benefits

After completing the tasks outlined in the ToR, each member of the DEPP Youth Advisory Council will be given a $3,000 stipend. Starting on December 1, 2024, the job will last for ten months.

Eligibility Criteria

The ideal candidate for the DEPP Youth Advisory Council should have the following skills and qualifications:

- Aged between 18 and 30 years old;
- A national from one of the following regions: Europe/Eurasia, Middle East/North Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, or Asia;
- Proven leadership in civic and/or political engagement;
- A solid understanding of the significance of encouraging youth political and/or civic participation and leadership, along with strategies to promote this goal;
- Demonstrated involvement and leadership in one or more sectors, such as health, business, gender equity, social inclusion, education, peace and security, climate, and environmental sustainability;
- Experience in designing and implementing initiatives at the local and/or national levels that promote or enhance the participation of youth and marginalized groups in politics, electoral processes, and civic life;
- A strong grasp of inclusive, intersectional approaches when working with diverse groups of young people who have multiple marginalized identities;
- Experience collaborating with a variety of stakeholders, including civil society organizations, universities, local and national government agencies, political parties, businesses, and development actors;
- Some experience in research and monitoring and evaluation is preferred but not mandatory;
- Proficiency in English (speaking, reading, and writing);
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills;
- Self-motivated and creative; and
- Access to a reliable internet connection.
