With a fully funded trip to COP30 in Belem (Brazil) : Join the Cap and Share Policy Competition
Are you eager to address the climate emergency? Do you have creative solutions for transitioning away from fossil fuels while promoting economic and climate justice? If so, the Cap and Share Policy Competition is for you!
We invite Young Changemakers—activists, scholars, policy experts, and climate advocates from around the world—to submit their most innovative policy proposals for implementing Cap and Share. This transformative climate finance and mitigation system aims to end fossil fuel extraction and redistribute wealth to the communities most affected by the climate crisis.
What We’re Seeking
A two-page policy brief that presents a creative and practical implementation of the Cap and Share model, customized for a specific region, country, or industry. Submissions may include, but are not limited to:
- A bilateral or plurilateral Cap and Share agreement between countries in the Global North and Global South (for example, we have modeled Denmark and Costa Rica and encourage applicants to select two or more other countries).
- A sector-specific Cap and Share strategy (such as for the shipping or aviation sectors).
- A regional Cap and Share model for the Asia Pacific, Africa and MENA, or LATAM regions.
- Innovative approaches to policy development for various components of the Cap and Share model, including governance structures for a community-owned Global Commons Fund, the issuance of extractive licenses, methods for distributing a global cash dividend, mechanisms for determining equitable shares of the per capita global carbon budget, and recognizing shared but differentiated responsibilities in implementing Cap and Share in specific areas.
We encourage you to challenge conventional thinking, consider transnational perspectives, and offer visionary solutions to transform climate finance and fossil fuel extraction.
This competition is open to anyone passionate about climate justice who meets the criteria mentioned above. However, we especially encourage submissions from individuals in the Global South and their diaspora, women, Indigenous peoples, LGBTQ+ community members, those from low-income households, people with disabilities, and others from underrepresented groups or backgrounds. Submissions from these groups will be prioritized in the evaluation process.
This is a unique chance to advocate for innovative climate solutions and amplify your voice in the global policy arena.
Don't miss out on the application deadline which is December 1, 5pm UTC
