FUNDING : Apply for the Seeding The Future Global Food System Challenge 2025

The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) and the Seeding the Future Foundation invite scientists, engineers, innovators, entrepreneurs, and multidisciplinary teams from NGOs, non-profits, social enterprises, universities, research institutions, and small or emerging for-profit enterprises to submit groundbreaking innovations aimed at transforming the food system.The Seeding The Future Global Food System Challenge aims to inspire and support diverse, multidisciplinary teams in developing transformative innovations to improve the food system.

Seeding The Future’s mission is to fund and advance impactful initiatives and organizations that drive innovations to make food systems more nutritious, regenerative, and equitable for all.

Seeding The Future envisions a global food system that ensures equitable access to safe, nutritious, affordable, and appealing food, enhancing both human and planetary health through sustainability, resilience, and regeneration. The ultimate goal is to positively impact the lives of one billion people.

Program Benefits
The Seeding The Future Global Food System Challenge will provide monetary awards in the form of grants and prizes totalling up to one million US dollars annually.

Seed Grants ($25,000 each)
Growth Grants ($100,000 each)
Seeding The Future Grand Prizes ($250,000 each)
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for an award, projects must demonstrate innovation and impact, contributing advancements that benefit at least one, and ideally multiple, focus areas of the Innovation Focus, without negatively affecting other areas. Projects showing cross-domain benefits and being at an advanced development stage are eligible for higher award levels. Here, "Innovation" refers to a novel idea, approach, concept, or technology that is practical and provides substantial benefits to people or the environment.

**Eligible Organizations**
- Non-profits globally
- Academic or research institutions worldwide
- Early-stage or emerging for-profit companies internationally

**Ineligible Applicants and Projects**
- Individuals cannot apply.
- Exclusions include organizations from countries under U.S. sanctions (Cuba, Iran, Syria, North Korea, Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions of Ukraine).
- Projects with negative impacts on food safety, sustainability, or consumer acceptance.
- Theoretical ideas without experimental support or practical applications.
- Initiatives supporting large for-profit companies' commercial operations (e.g., R&D, sales).
- Projects that lack scalability or long-term impact.
- Campaigns related to politics, lobbying, or capital fundraising.
Eligible Countries
All Countries but Exclusions include organizations from countries under U.S. sanctions (Cuba, Iran, Syria, North Korea, Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions of Ukraine).
