Applications are open for individuals interested in joining the Global Steering Committee and Operations Team of the Children and Youth Major Group to the UN Environment Programme (CYMG). As the official youth engagement mechanism for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), this globally recognized platform brings together young leaders, networks, and organizations committed to tackling the interconnected challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. By amplifying youth voices in environmental governance and sustainable development discussions, this initiative plays a critical role in ensuring meaningful participation and advocacy at the highest levels.

The Global Steering Committee is responsible for guiding the strategic direction of CYMG, overseeing its programmatic and policy-related efforts. Selected individuals will engage in coordination with UNEP offices, facilitate youth involvement in UN processes on regional or thematic levels, and support key initiatives, including preparations for the Youth Environment Assembly and the seventh session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-7). Those in this role will work closely with young people in their designated focus areas to strengthen participation and impact.

The Operations Team ensures the smooth functioning of the Constituency by handling communications, logistics, and administrative tasks. Those selected will contribute to essential activities such as managing social media platforms, designing graphics and website content, supporting outreach efforts, maintaining IT systems, assisting with financial records, and coordinating logistics for both virtual and in-person events. This team is vital in sustaining engagement and ensuring that the platform remains accessible and effective for young environmental advocates worldwide.

Each position requires a time commitment of approximately three hours per week, though this may fluctuate depending on ongoing projects and responsibilities. The selected individuals will serve for a one-year term, starting upon appointment, with roles expected to commence no later than May 1, 2025. These positions are voluntary, and no financial compensation is provided.
