The Internet Society has opened applications for its 2025 Peering Fellowship, a program aimed at empowering professionals working to make Internet access more reliable, affordable, and accessible by improving local interconnection systems and advocating for policies that support a healthy digital ecosystem. This immersive six-month journey is tailored to equip a group of 15 professionals involved in peering and interconnection with the insights, tools, and skills needed to overcome regional infrastructure challenges and explore opportunities for Internet growth, while engaging with peers at key industry events. This initiative reflects the Society’s ongoing commitment to expanding dependable Internet access around the world.

Participants in this fellowship will engage in both online and in-person learning experiences. Virtual sessions will involve technical and policy-focused training, interactive discussions, and knowledge-sharing platforms. Selected fellows will also travel to attend one major peering event in their region, offering them an opportunity to connect directly with the international Internet exchange community. Through expert-led training in topics such as routing, Internet Exchange Points (IXPs), and policy advocacy, fellows will develop both their technical capabilities and their understanding of policy environments that affect Internet connectivity. Networking opportunities with global experts and like-minded professionals will also be a core aspect of the program, allowing fellows to strengthen their influence and impact at home and abroad.

To be considered, candidates must be actively working in the fields of Internet infrastructure, interconnection, or Internet governance. They should reside in Africa, Asia-Pacific, or Latin America and the Caribbean. Applicants need to hold a passport with sufficient validity based on their region, as they must be able to travel for in-person sessions. They should be prepared to attend one of the following conferences: AfPIF (August 19–21, 2025), LACNOG (October 6–10, 2025), or Peering Asia (November 4–6, 2025). A minimum of three years of experience in the Internet sector is required, along with a willingness to commit to the six-month program. Candidates must be proficient in English and have a reliable Internet connection and suitable device to fully engage in weekly virtual meetings scheduled between 11:00 and 15:00 UTC.

Selected fellows will receive support to attend one regional peering event. This includes a round-trip flight, hotel stay for the duration of the event, and a fixed stipend to cover additional costs. However, participants will be responsible for their own visa application fees. Travel logistics will align strictly with the scheduled event dates.

The program is particularly welcoming to individuals from Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States, encouraging a diverse group of voices to contribute to the future of the Internet.
