Princeton in Asia (PiA) is inviting applications for its 2026–27 fellowship program, which is designed to strengthen cross-cultural connections and mutual understanding between Asia and the United States. Through immersive professional placements, fellows live and work in local communities while contributing to meaningful initiatives across the region.

For the upcoming cycle, the program expects to place around sixty fellows in diverse locations, which may include Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Macao, Mongolia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam. These assignments will span multiple fields, giving candidates the chance to engage in areas such as education, arts and culture, sports, economic growth, science and technology, public health, environmental sustainability, and efforts promoting peace, justice, and information access.

Most placements begin in the mid to late summer months, generally between July and September, and last for either one or two years depending on the host organization and position. The program welcomes candidates from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds. While many applicants are completing undergraduate studies or are recent graduates, there are no restrictions based on age. A bachelor’s degree is required before beginning the fellowship, and individuals with master’s qualifications are also eligible, though applicants with professional terminal degrees such as J.D., M.D., or Ph.D. are not considered. Citizens of any nation may apply, though visa requirements in specific countries may affect final placements. Applicants must be able to demonstrate strong proficiency in English, and those seeking teaching positions should be native or near-native speakers. Knowledge of Asian languages is an asset but not a prerequisite.

Selected fellows receive the opportunity to work in fully immersive, paid positions in Asia. Each fellow is supported with a living stipend provided by the host organization to cover essential costs, including accommodation, food, local transport, and communication needs. Additional benefits include health and safety resources, visa reimbursement (for U.S.-based applications), and access to a pre-departure orientation. Teaching fellows will also gain entry to a 120-hour TEFL certification course. Another significant advantage is the chance to become part of the PiA alumni community, which connects fellows to a vast professional and personal network across Asia and the United States.

The application process requires completion of an online form, which includes written responses, a short video submission, a résumé, an unofficial transcript, and one confidential recommendation. Applicants will also complete a demographic survey as part of the process. All materials must be submitted by November 1, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.
