Applications are now open for the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO)-Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)-The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS)/UNESCO PhD Scholarship for the 2025–2026 academic year. This fully funded program supports exceptional students from developing countries to pursue their PhD studies in China.

The ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship is designed to cultivate the next generation of leading scientists, innovators, and researchers from the Global South. Each year, the program selects up to 40 outstanding candidates to undertake doctoral studies at prestigious Chinese institutions affiliated with the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) or the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS).

Selected scholars will receive a fully funded scholarship package that includes a tuition waiver, monthly stipend of 6,000 or 7,000 Chinese Yuan (depending on qualification assessment), comprehensive health insurance, and a travel allowance for an international one-way trip to China. The award also covers a one-time visa fee and offers access to research supervision from top scientists within CAS institutes.

The PhD scholarship lasts for up to four years and provides full financial support throughout the study period. In addition to financial coverage, recipients benefit from access to world-class research facilities, international academic exposure, and opportunities to publish and collaborate globally under the mentorship of renowned Chinese researchers.
Eligibility Criteria
The program is open to applicants who are nationals of developing countries and non-Chinese citizens. Candidates must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent qualification and should be born after 1 January 1991. Applicants are expected to demonstrate academic excellence, a strong research background, and a clear commitment to advancing scientific development in their home countries.

Eligible research fields cover a wide range of disciplines, including agricultural sciences, biological and health sciences, engineering, chemistry, mathematics, physics, astronomy, earth sciences, and social and economic sciences. Candidates must be proficient in either English or Chinese, depending on the language of instruction at their chosen host university.
