Applications are open for The South African Centre for Epidemiological Modelling and Analysis (SACEMA) 2026 Policy Modelling Fellowship — a 10-month fully funded program designed to strengthen Africa’s capacity in data-driven, policy-relevant disease modelling. The fellowship equips participants with the technical and analytical skills needed to support measles and polio vaccination planning, outbreak preparedness, and health policy formulation across the continent.
About the Fellowship
The Policy Modelling Fellowship provides emerging African professionals with hands-on training and mentorship from leading experts in public health modelling. Fellows will apply advanced analytical methods to national health data, engage directly with ministries of health, and deliver insights that inform real-world policy decisions.
Throughout the fellowship, participants will receive a stipend, along with fully funded travel, accommodation, and meals during in-person training sessions in South Africa — including 6–8 weeks of technical training mid-year and a 2-week final residency in October 2026.
Key Objectives
Fellows will:

Use data-modelling techniques to inform measles and/or polio immunization strategies.

Collaborate with national health ministries to assess needs, gather data, and communicate policy findings.

Develop actionable recommendations for strengthening vaccination programs and outbreak response.

Mode: Hybrid (Remote + In-person)
Core Activities:

- Experience with health data or mathematical modelling.
- Familiarity with public health systems in Africa.
- Technical aptitude for learning and applying disease-modelling tools.
