The Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) began in 2013, created by CIFOR-ICRAF together with partners such as UNEP, the World Bank, and the Government of Germany. From the very beginning, the initiative aimed to ensure that young people and underrepresented communities had a real place and voice in global discussions.

Over the years, the GLF has evolved into the world’s largest gathering focused on sustainable land stewardship, restoring ecosystems, and promoting holistic landscape management. Its work directly supports key global agendas, including the SDGs, the Paris Agreement, and the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, with sights set on 2030 goals. Today, 35 major environmental and development institutions serve as its Charter Members, creating a broad coalition committed to shaping a more sustainable future.

Since its creation, the GLF has helped connect a vast global network—more than 25,000 organizations, 1.3 million young people, and around 100 governments. Its events and online platforms have engaged participants from 185 countries and reached an audience of well over 2.9 billion people through both digital outreach and traditional media.
