The Africa Healthcare Innovation Fellowship (AHIF) 2026 is now open to young African professionals committed to strengthening health systems through innovation, systems thinking, and digital transformation.

Developed by InnovateHealth Africa (IHA), AHIF is a 14-week, field-based fellowship designed to equip emerging leaders with the practical skills, experience, and networks needed to identify healthcare challenges, design context-appropriate solutions, and support scalable impact across the continent.

About the Fellowship

Africa’s health systems face persistent challenges, including limited access to care, workforce gaps, fragmented digital tools, and increasing disease burdens. AHIF responds to these realities by placing fellows directly within real health system environments, where they work alongside health facilities, communities, policymakers, and innovation hubs to address real-world problems.

The fellowship combines structured virtual learning with immersive, on-site field experiences, allowing participants to move from problem discovery to solution testing and demonstration.

Fellowship Structure

AHIF 2026 runs for 14 weeks and follows six interconnected phases:

1. Orientation & Foundational Learning (Virtual)

2. Problem Discovery (On-site)

3. Problem Validation & Capacity Building (Virtual)

4. Prototyping Lab (On-site)

5. Field Pilot (On-site)

6. Demo Day (Virtual

Key Dates

• Applications Open: January 2026

• Selection Period: March – April 2026

• Fellowship Period: May – July 2026

• Post-Fellowship Support: August 2026 onwards
