COP31 Antalya: Apply for the COP31 Volunteer Programme 2026 for students and young professionals
Applications are now open for the COP31 Volunteer Program, an exciting opportunity for young people to become part of one of the world’s most significant international climate events. Hosted by Turkey, the program is designed to build a strong and diverse volunteer network that will support the successful organization of COP31 while empowering participants with valuable international experience, practical skills, and a deeper understanding of climate action and sustainability.
The initiative aims to engage young people who are passionate about making a positive impact by providing them with the opportunity to contribute to the operational delivery of COP31. Beyond supporting the event itself, the program seeks to raise awareness of climate change, encourage sustainable living, promote global citizenship, and create lasting connections between young people from different countries and cultures. Volunteers will also help showcase Turkey’s vision for its COP Presidency while contributing to meaningful dialogue on environmental issues.
Applications are welcomed from Turkish citizens who are university students or young professionals, international students currently studying in Turkey, young volunteers nominated through foreign missions, and members of the Turkish diaspora living across Europe. Organizers plan to establish a volunteer network of approximately 5,000 participants, including around 1,500 international volunteers, making it one of the largest youth engagement initiatives connected to the conference.
Successful applicants should possess strong English language skills that enable them to communicate confidently with international participants and delegations. Knowledge of additional United Nations languages will be considered an advantage. Volunteers should also demonstrate excellent communication abilities, enjoy working as part of a diverse team, remain calm under pressure, adapt quickly to changing situations, and be prepared for active field operations that may involve flexible working hours during the event.
The selection process will assess candidates on both their personal and professional competencies. Applicants are expected to display professionalism, cultural awareness, analytical thinking, strong listening skills, adaptability, and a willingness to learn through digital training platforms. A genuine commitment to sustainability, climate action, and environmental responsibility is essential, along with respect for diversity and the ability to engage positively with people from different cultural backgrounds.
Applications will be submitted through the official online platform, where candidates will complete the registration process and access important information about the program. Following the initial review of applications, shortlisted candidates will progress through various assessment stages that may include general aptitude and foreign language examinations, interviews, and competency-based evaluations before final selections are announced.
Selected volunteers will participate in a comprehensive online training and orientation program designed to prepare them for their responsibilities during COP31. The learning experience will include topics such as sustainability, global warming, carbon footprint reduction, green transition, environmental awareness, international delegation communication, visitor guidance, and event management. The modular training program will be delivered by experts and supported through digital learning resources to ensure volunteers are fully prepared for their assignments.
Volunteers who successfully complete the training will be assigned to various operational areas throughout COP31, where they will assist with visitor support, delegation services, event coordination, and other essential functions that contribute to the smooth running of the conference. Working alongside professionals and fellow volunteers from around the world will provide participants with valuable practical experience in an international environment.
The program also offers opportunities that extend beyond the conference itself. Outstanding volunteers may be considered for internships and career development opportunities related to sustainability, climate policy, international event management, and environmental studies. Achievements within the volunteer management system and digital badge program will also be considered when identifying participants for future professional development opportunities.
Young people with a passion for sustainability, international cooperation, and climate action are encouraged to apply and become part of a global movement working towards a more sustainable future. The COP31 Volunteer Program offers a unique opportunity to gain international experience, develop valuable professional skills, build lifelong networks, and contribute directly to one of the world’s most important climate conferences.
