The Mitacs Globalink Research Internship is now accepting applications for its 2027 summer cohort, offering undergraduate students from eligible countries the opportunity to gain international research experience at leading Canadian academic institutions. The competitive 12-week program allows selected participants to work directly on research projects under the supervision of Canadian university faculty members, alongside graduate students and research associates.

The internship is open to undergraduate students from Austria, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Jordan, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Tunisia, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and the United States. Participants can explore research opportunities across a broad range of disciplines, including science, engineering, mathematics, humanities and social sciences.

Selected interns receive financial support towards a round-trip flight to Canada, transportation from the Canadian airport to their accommodation, housing, food and other living expenses. The award also provides support towards student enrollment fees, emergency health insurance for the duration of the internship, and access to campus-based student mentors. Participants can additionally benefit from professional development courses and industry events while experiencing Canada’s research and innovation environment.

The 12-week internship must take place between May 1 and October 31, 2027, with participants required to be available to begin their placement at any point between May 1 and July 31. Internships are hosted at more than 70 Canadian academic institutions and provide students with an opportunity to strengthen their research skills, develop professional networks and gain international academic experience.

To be eligible, applicants must be at least 18 years old when applying and must be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or combined undergraduate/master’s program at an eligible institution in one of the participating countries or regions. Applicants must have completed at least two years of undergraduate study, or be enrolled in the second year of their current program, depending on the requirements applicable to their country. They must also have between one and three semesters remaining in their program as of fall 2027 and satisfy the applicable academic or GPA requirements.

Applicants are required to select between three and ten research projects when submitting their application, with their choices coming from at least three different Canadian provinces. They must also demonstrate sufficient proficiency in the language of their selected research project, whether English or French, to communicate effectively and carry out the required research activities. Applicants who have previously received a Globalink Research Internship project are not eligible to apply again.

The application deadline for the 2027 Globalink Research Internship is September 16, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time. Interested students are encouraged to review the country-specific eligibility requirements, identify suitable research projects and submit their applications before the deadline.
