FULLY FUNDED : Apply for the Cambridge ERA:AI Fellowship Winter 2027

Applications are now open for the Cambridge ERA:AI Fellowship Winter 2027, a fully funded 10-week research and entrepreneurship programme for researchers and entrepreneurs working to understand and reduce catastrophic risks associated with frontier artificial intelligence.

Based in Cambridge, United Kingdom, the fellowship provides participants with the opportunity to develop an individual research project, work closely with experienced mentors, and connect with a wider network of researchers, entrepreneurs and policymakers working on AI safety and governance.

The Winter 2027 programme will run from 18 January to 26 March 2027.

About the ERA:AI Fellowship

The ERA Fellowship is designed for people interested in addressing some of the most important challenges arising from increasingly capable AI systems.

During the 10-week residency, fellows receive support to pursue research or related work focused on understanding and mitigating potential catastrophic risks from frontier AI. The programme places particular emphasis on professional development, high-quality research and building long-term capacity in the AI safety and governance community.

Participants work on individual projects while receiving close mentorship and career support throughout the fellowship.

Research Tracks

For the Winter 2027 cohort, applications are being accepted across three tracks:

1. AI Governance

This track focuses on questions surrounding how governments, institutions and other stakeholders can develop effective approaches to governing advanced AI systems.

2. Technical AI Governance

This area sits at the intersection of technical AI research and governance, examining how technical understanding can inform policies and systems for managing advanced AI risks.

3. Technical AI Safety

This track is aimed at research into the technical challenges involved in making advanced AI systems safer and reducing potential catastrophic risks.

Applicants are encouraged to review ERA's previous research projects and AI risk materials before applying to understand the type of work the fellowship is interested in supporting.
