Applications are open for the Climate Resilience Fellowship 2027, a hybrid learning and career exploration programme organised by the Waterfront Alliance for people interested in climate resilience, sustainable infrastructure and the future of waterfront communities.

The fellowship is designed for individuals who may be at different stages of figuring out their next steps. Whether someone is currently in college, considering a skilled trade or exploring a new career direction, the programme offers an opportunity to learn about coastal climate resilience and discover pathways into green and blue careers.

No previous experience in climate or design is required.

About the Climate Resilience Fellowship

Running from January to April 2027, the fellowship will introduce participants to the challenges facing coastal communities and the strategies being developed to make waterfront areas more resilient.

Participants will explore topics including coastal climate resilience, green infrastructure, accessible waterfront design and green and blue career pathways.

The programme also combines learning with mentorship and community engagement, giving fellows an opportunity to connect what they learn with real community needs.

Sessions will take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings through a hybrid format combining virtual and in-person activities. The location for the in-person component will be announced by Waterfront Alliance.

What Fellows Will Gain

The Climate Resilience Fellowship provides participants with practical learning and career-development opportunities, including:

Climate and Waterfront Resilience Education

Fellows will learn about coastal climate resilience and strategies that can help communities prepare for environmental challenges and future climate impacts.

Green and Blue Career Pathways

The programme introduces participants to career opportunities connected to sustainability, resilience, waterfront development and related fields.

Participants can explore how interests in science, technology, art, design and community development can connect to emerging environmental careers.

Mentorship

Fellows will have opportunities to receive mentorship while exploring potential career pathways in the green and blue economy.

WEDG Associate Credential

Participants will receive training related to the Waterfront Edge Design Guidelines (WEDG) and have the opportunity to earn the WEDG Associate Credential.

Community Engagement

The fellowship includes opportunities for participants to engage directly with their communities and consider how climate resilience and infrastructure solutions can better respond to local needs.

The programme will run from:

Schedule: Tuesday and Thursday evenings

Format: Hybrid, combining virtual and in-person activities

In-person location: To be announced

$700 Honorarium

Participants who successfully complete the specific requirements of the fellowship will receive a $700 honorarium.

Transit cards are also included as part of the programme support.
