Apply for the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens (BKMC) 4th edition Youth AgriChampions – a Peer2Peer workshop

The Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens (BKMC) is excited to host the 4th edition of the Youth AgriChampions Peer2Peer workshop series, focusing on climate adaptation in agriculture. This program brings together youth leaders from smallholder farming and agricultural entrepreneurship in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Zambia to share their firsthand experiences of adapting agricultural practices to climate change. Throughout the workshops, the BKMC Youth AgriChampions will collaborate to create a youth demand paper, which will be presented by BKMC Co-chair and 8th UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon as part of his advocacy efforts. This year, the workshops will focus on locally-driven adaptation strategies for smallholder farmers.

In previous years, Youth AgriChampions have joined the BKMC delegation at events like the African Food Systems Forum in Rwanda and COP29 in Azerbaijan, where they presented the Youth AgriChampions Demand Paper and voiced the concerns of farmers worldwide.

Upon completing the workshop series, participants will receive certificates signed by Ban Ki-moon and become part of the expanding BKMC Youth AgriChampions Alumni Network.

This series of workshops provides an opportunity for young innovators from the grassroots level of smallholder agriculture to engage, share their challenges, and voice their needs for solutions and support related to agricultural adaptation to climate change in their countries. Throughout three workshops, the Youth AgriChampions will collaborate to create a set of demands, which will be compiled into a document and presented to Ban Ki-moon, the 8th UN Secretary-General and Co-chair of the Ban Ki-moon Centre. He will use the paper in his advocacy efforts.

In the first two workshops, experts in agricultural adaptation will provide valuable insights to guide the Youth AgriChampions in shaping their demands. These demands will also be utilized to advocate for smallholder farmers and agriculture stakeholders at COP30, supporting efforts in agricultural adaptation.

Upon successfully completing the workshop series, participants will be invited to attend an online closing ceremony where they will receive certificates signed by Ban Ki-moon. Additionally, five exemplary projects from the Youth AgriChampions on adapting to climate change will be featured on the Ban Ki-moon Centre’s platforms.

The workshop series is organized and hosted by the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens under the Elevating Agricultural Adaptation program. Full participation in the workshops is required.
