Apply for the Commonwealth Foundation grants Focusing on Health, Freedom of Expression and Climate Justice. ( up to £30,000 in funding )
What the Commonwealth Foundation Funds:
The Commonwealth Foundation funds projects that foster productive engagement between civil society and decision-makers, particularly in relation to policy development and implementation. To be successful, projects must align with one or more of the Foundation’s three focus areas:
- Health Justice
- Freedom of Expression
- Climate Justice
Who the Commonwealth Foundation Funds:
The Foundation supports not-for-profit civil society organizations (CSOs) registered in eligible Commonwealth member states, with at least three years of experience in participatory governance and advocacy. Ensure your organization meets the eligibility requirements before submitting an application.
Funding Priorities:
1. Health Justice: Projects should aim to improve equitable healthcare access, tackle discrimination in health systems, and involve marginalized groups in decision-making.
2. Freedom of Expression: The Foundation supports efforts that safeguard the right to free speech, enhance civil society's role in governance, and promote media freedom and access to information.
3. Climate Justice: Projects should elevate the voices of communities most impacted by climate change, push for environmental justice, and promote inclusive decision-making.
Important Note: Applicants are encouraged to explore the intersections between these three themes and integrate gender considerations into their project design.
Cross-Cutting Themes:
- Gender: All proposals must address how gender dynamics influence the project’s theme and show a commitment to gender equity.
- Partnerships: While collaboration with other organizations, informal groups, or movements is encouraged, only the lead applicant must meet eligibility criteria.
- Creativity for Change: Proposals using artistic and creative advocacy to drive policy change are welcomed.
Capacity Strengthening:
If shortlisted, applicants can include capacity-building activities (up to 5% of the requested grant) to enhance organizational effectiveness.
Exclusions:
The Commonwealth Foundation will not fund:
- Academic research, training, or exchanges between developed countries.
- Pure service delivery projects like construction or facility installations.
- Capacity-building projects solely for government or private sector officials.
