Applications are now open for the second edition of Energising Women to Advance the Energy Transition in the SADC Region, a 12-month mentorship programme designed to strengthen the leadership pipeline of women working in the energy sector across Southern Africa.

The initiative is led by GWNET: Global Women's Network for the Energy Transition in partnership with the SADC Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SACREEE), with financial backing from the Austrian Development Agency (ADA).

About the Programme

This mentorship initiative is tailored for women in junior to mid-level management roles within the energy sector across the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Over the course of one year, participants receive structured support to strengthen their technical expertise, leadership skills, and professional confidence.

Each mentee is matched with an experienced energy professional based on her career goals and sector interests. Monthly one-to-one sessions provide space to navigate workplace challenges, refine career strategies, and build pathways toward advancement.

Call for Mentors

Senior energy professionals are also invited to volunteer as mentors.

Mentors contribute approximately 1–1.5 hours per month and play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of women leaders in the sector.

Mentor Requirements:

• At least five years of professional experience in the energy field

• Availability for monthly virtual mentoring sessions

• Participation in programme kick-off and closing events

• Willingness to share expertise and support professional growth

Mentoring offers reciprocal benefits, including professional reflection, cross-generational learning, and expanded regional networks.

Despite progress in the renewable energy space, women remain underrepresented in technical and leadership positions. Mentorship has proven to be a critical factor in improving retention, confidence, and upward mobility in STEM-related careers.
