Applications are open for the Global Schools Advocates Program
The Global Schools Advocates Program is the core initiative of Global Schools, designed as a cohort-based opportunity for educators and school leaders worldwide who are passionate about embedding sustainable development concepts into their teaching. Created using insights from more than 220 sustainability experts and over 40 educators, the program equips schools to integrate sustainable development across their curriculum, school operations, and teaching methods. Participants benefit from structured training, access to pedagogical resources, and membership in a global educator network.
Program Overview
Global Schools Advocates include teachers and school leaders from early childhood, primary, and secondary education. In their roles, they serve as local change agents, collaborating with their school communities to bring sustainability into everyday learning.
Training Component
Participants will undergo an online, self-paced training program aimed at strengthening their knowledge of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). The course introduces the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and provides practical strategies for integrating ESD into classroom teaching. Upon successful completion, educators receive the title of Global Schools Advocate along with access to a comprehensive Advocate Toolkit. The training requires roughly 10–15 hours and includes optional live sessions.
Introducing ESD to the School Community
After completing the training, Advocates will bring ESD principles to life within their school environment. This includes organizing an internal workshop to educate fellow teachers about sustainable development and motivate their participation. Using a set of curated tools and materials, Advocates will tailor lessons to their local context, engaging both students and faculty in sustainability topics.
Embedding ESD in Practice
Advocates will use customized lesson plans, activity guides, and the Advocate Toolkit to implement ESD-focused activities either within their classrooms or school-wide. There is no obligation to follow a standardized curriculum, allowing educators to adapt the program to the specific needs and priorities of their school community—with support from the Global Schools team.
Sharing and Collaborating Globally
Participants will engage with experienced mentors and attend monthly professional learning sessions. These gatherings offer opportunities to exchange ideas, reflect on their practice, and connect with fellow educators globally. Advocates are also encouraged to document and share their successes and insights with the broader Global Schools network and their local communities.
