Apply for the Forest Restoration Grants by WWF: Promoting locally directed forest restoration
The Russell E. Train Education for Nature (EFN) Programme of the WWF is seeking concept notes for the community-based Forest Restoration Grant from regional organisations that have previously received funding from the Reforestation Grant programme.
By providing previously funded local organisations with tangible results that link their earlier work, the competitive community-based Forest Restoration Grant seeks to enhance long-term community forest restoration through collaborative nature-based solutions that are delivered effectively and efficiently. Candidates must provide evidence of a track record of:
strengthening practical training, knowledge exchange, knowledge and livelihood dissemination, long-term monitoring, and evaluation of forest restoration activities by encouraging a place-based commitment to the restoration of deforested and degraded landscapes and by interacting and connecting with local communities and stakeholders in community-based restoration activities
preservation of traditional knowledge, the ability and capability of the local community to manage natural resources in a way that benefits the community and the economy, and the diversification of livelihood efforts supporting regional and national initiatives for forest and landscape restoration

achieving healthy oceans for the benefit of humanity, the environment, wealth, and peace
The Forests
protecting the most significant forests on Earth in order to maintain the diversity of nature, improve the climate, and promote human welfare
Fresh Water Bodies
preserving freshwater ecosystems and resources around the world to sustain human livelihoods and biodiversity.
Proposals that: are locally driven support forest and landscape restoration operations in the larger landscape context outside of the project intervention sites (e.g., through connectivity, downstream ecosystem service recovery, or others) will receive special consideration from WWF.
- Include consideration of gender equity in implementation and impact of broader efforts to address drivers of deforestation, with a focus on conservation of biodiversity and habitats, as well as perspectives for scaling impact, and opportunities for restoration for livelihood diversification, such as hiring and training locals for agroforestry systems development or restoration.
intensify collaboration and involvement with nearby communities
place a focus on improving local knowledge, abilities, and competence
form partnerships with other groups to carry out additional restoration actions and oversight; confer with national WWF offices to discuss project development;

Additional Information
Legal registration of your organisation in a nation that qualifies is required.
It is required that your organisation been previously supported by EFN under the Reforestation Grant (2011–2022).
All necessary documentation must be submitted by your organisation by the application deadline, which is March 30, 2024.
Restoration Project
- Reforestation and forest landscape restoration projects must be carried out by your organisation in a WWF-US priority area.
There must be at least 10,000 native tree species planted by your organisation.
As part of the project activities, the proposed project must incorporate an active learning component, a practical skill component, or a field-based learning activity that bolsters the knowledge and abilities of local stakeholders.
