The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) is inviting applications for its Internship for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Outreach and Partnerships.
Hosted by the Division for Sustainable Development Goals (DSDG), this internship offers students and recent graduates an opportunity to contribute to global efforts advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development while gaining practical experience within the United Nations system.
Based at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the internship may be undertaken in a hybrid or remote format, depending on the needs of the programme and arrangements made with successful applicants. The internship lasts between two and six months.
Throughout the programme, interns will work alongside UN professionals on initiatives supporting SDG implementation, stakeholder engagement, policy development, research, and international conferences.
Participants will gain first-hand exposure to multilateral processes, intergovernmental negotiations, and global partnerships while strengthening their research, communication, and organizational skills.
Internship Responsibilities
Successful interns will support a range of activities, including:
- Assisting in drafting concept notes and outreach materials for SDG-related events.
- Supporting stakeholder engagement strategies and compiling consultation outcomes.
- Conducting research and analysis on sustainable development topics.
- Assisting with the organization of in-person, virtual, and hybrid conferences, webinars, and training sessions.
- Supporting preparations for major UN meetings, including the High-Level Political Forum and other intergovernmental events.
- Contributing to research on Sustainable Development Goal partnerships and their implementation.
- Preparing reports, meeting summaries, and background documents.
- Supporting communications, social media activities, and website content updates.
- Providing general administrative and office support.

- Be proficient in standard computer software applications.
- Demonstrate strong written and spoken English skills.
- Knowledge of sustainable development issues is considered an advantage.
- Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is desirable.
- Professional work experience is not required.
