Call for Applications: Apply for the YOUNGO Badge Access for SB62 Bonn Climate Change Conference 2025
The 62nd Session of the Subsidiary Bodies (SB62), part of the Bonn Climate Change Conference, is set to take place from 16–26 June 2025. This gathering serves as a critical moment in the UNFCCC negotiation calendar, offering young people a chance to engage with key processes shaping global climate policy. In order to attend, official accreditation is required in the form of a UNFCCC badge, which is now open for application through the YOUNGO badge allocation process.
Badge allocation will be managed through YOUNGO’s established pool-badge system, created in 2018 to ensure fairness and transparency in the selection of youth representatives. While the number of badges available is still being finalized in coordination with YOUNGO partners, the call is opening early to allow sufficient time for applicants to submit thoughtful responses and for the selection team to carry out a thorough review.
The allocation process will reflect a commitment to continuity and inclusion. It aims to support those with previous experience while also welcoming fresh voices. Gender balance, regional diversity, and equitable representation of youth from the Global South and climate-vulnerable regions will be core to the selection process. Individuals from marginalized genders and underrepresented communities are especially encouraged to apply.
Applicants will be assessed based on their understanding of the UNFCCC system, their previous experience in youth-led or environmental work (particularly within YOUNGO), and their intended contributions to SB62. It’s important for applicants to observe all word limits in the application form, as exceeding them may negatively affect the review outcome.
Those who apply should be aware that this opportunity does not come with any financial support. Selected participants will be responsible for arranging their own travel, accommodation, food, and all other associated costs. In the event of selection, a formal accreditation letter will be provided, which may be used to support visa applications. However, visa processing and all related logistics must be handled independently by the participant.
Furthermore, those awarded badges will be accredited under an NGO and must adhere strictly to the UNFCCC’s guidelines for civil society participation. It is expected that applicants familiarize themselves with these guidelines prior to applying, as any violations will be the responsibility of the individual, not YOUNGO or its members. The same applies to legal obligations—participants will be accountable to the badge-issuing NGO and the relevant authorities in case of any issues.
Young people passionate about climate action, particularly those who have engaged with YOUNGO or the broader UN climate space, are encouraged to apply for this meaningful opportunity to contribute to the global climate dialogue. The experience not only offers a platform to advocate for youth priorities but also to build lasting networks and shape future negotiations.
Applications are now open via the designated Google Form. Interested candidates should act promptly and carefully complete all required sections. This is an important step in enabling meaningful youth representation in one of the world’s most important climate platforms.
