The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), which was established in 1972, has been the world's leading environmental advocacy organisation. It also sets the environmental agenda, encourages the UN system to implement the environmental component of sustainable development in a cogent manner, and represents the environment on a global scale.

The objective of UNEP is to inspire, enlighten, and enable nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations. It also promotes partnership in environmental care.

With its main office located in Nairobi, Kenya, UNEP operates through its divisions, regional, liaison, and out-of-posted offices, in addition to an expanding network of partner centres of excellence.

Setting
The UNV volunteer will be employed by UNEP's Corporate Services Division's Legal Unit. In a range of areas pertaining to international, public, private, administrative, and environmental law as well as other topics needing legal input, such as the interpretation and application of instruments, the UNV will offer legal help, advice, and opinion. In his or her area of specialisation, the UNV supports additional UNEP initiatives as well as lawful corporate endeavours.

As an Associate Legal Officer, the UNV volunteer will work with UNEP's Corporate Services Division/Legal Unit to provide corporate legal advice. They will assist with due diligence and audit procedures, as well as examine and prepare agreements, legal documents, and modifications. In addition, they will analyse UNEP policies, assist in the creation and modification of legal template instruments, and compile essential legal advice. Additionally, they will study legal matters pertaining to international organisations, privileges and immunities, international law, and multilateral environmental agreements. When needed, they will also help with other professional responsibilities.

Eligibility Criteria
The candidate must be a citizen of a nation other than the assignment country and be between the ages of 27 and 80. Three years of expertise in corporate law is a requirement, including writing and evaluating legal documents, familiarity with public international law, and collaborations with both public and private sector entities. It is advantageous to know another official language of the UN. The candidate specialises in driving licences and legal matters. They must possess a master's degree in law, or an equivalent, and be fluent in English. The applicant must exhibit professionalism, effective communication, teamwork, and organisational and planning abilities. They ought to be efficient, driven by professional interests, and diligent. They should also be able to read legislative documents, operate under pressure, and work under pressure.
