Eligibility Criteria
The Mellon/SAR Academic Freedom Fellowship is targeted at researchers, scholars, and academics who are actively working on issues related to academic freedom, higher education, human rights, or closely related fields. Applicants are expected to propose a research project that meaningfully contributes to understanding or advancing academic freedom or similar values within academic institutions.

Candidates should demonstrate strong academic or professional experience, as well as the ability to complete a defined research project within the programme’s duration. While the programme is open globally, preference is often given to individuals whose work engages critically with pressing academic freedom challenges in their regions or fields of study.

Participants must also be willing to actively engage in virtual workshops, present their research progress, and contribute feedback to fellow participants throughout the programme. A commitment to collaboration and knowledge-sharing is essential for successful participation.
