FULLY FUNDED : Apply for the Africa Innovation Fellowship Programme 2024

WomHub encourages you to apply for our Africa Innovation Fellowship Program if that's the case.

The Africa Innovation Fellowship (AIF), in collaboration with the Royal Academy of Engineering, supports the development of women-led STEM innovations across sub-Saharan Africa. AIF 2024 offers an eight-month leadership and business growth opportunity for African women entrepreneurs with early-stage engineering innovations or startups aiming to scale and become investor-ready. Many past AIF participants have successfully applied for the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation.

Program Benefits
Starting in November 2024, AIF features a virtual masterclass series focusing on business incubation, leadership growth, funding, and pitch preparation, concluding in July 2025. The program equips founders with a fully funded, in-person entrepreneurship bootcamp, expert engineering guidance, venture clinics, mentorship, and financial coaching to help transform their innovative ideas into thriving businesses.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have a registered STEM-based business idea or startup based in sub-Saharan Africa that is new or innovative. They should have developed an engineering innovation in the early stages of commercialization, aimed at delivering social and/or environmental benefits to one or more sub-Saharan African countries.

For individual applicants, citizenship of a sub-Saharan African country is required, while teams must have a lead applicant who meets this criterion. Alumni or co-founders of alumni from the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation are not eligible for the AIF programme.

Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to entrepreneurship and be able to participate in the full eight-month programme, running from November 2024 to July 2025. A valid passport and availability to travel between February and May 2025 are required.

Candidates should show passion and expertise in their STEM field, be eager to actively engage in the programme, and identify as women. Applicants must be over 18, with no upper age limit.

Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Swaziland/eSwatini, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Note: Djibouti is not included in Sub-Saharan Africa, as it is handled administratively as part of the Middle East and North Africa.
