Applications are open for the ASEAN–Japan Young Environmental Leaders Network (AJYELN) 2.0, a dynamic programme designed to empower young people to take practical action against plastic pollution across ASEAN countries and Japan.

Built around the 2026 theme “Youth for a Plastic-Resilient Region: Action. Innovation. Transformation.”, this initiative supports youth-led solutions that move beyond awareness into real, measurable impact.

Team Size: 2–3 members

About the Programme

AJYELN brings together a new generation of environmental leaders committed to tackling plastic pollution through community-driven initiatives. The programme blends funding, training, and mentorship, giving selected teams the tools to design and implement impactful projects within their communities.

Participants are expected to develop solutions that contribute to a plastic-resilient future, focusing on action-oriented and scalable ideas.

Focus Areas

Applicants are encouraged to propose projects aligned with:

  • Marine plastic waste reduction

  • Plastic pollution solutions

  • Waste and wastewater management

  • Circular economy approaches for plastics

Projects should prioritize community engagement, awareness-building, and collaboration.

Programme Timeline

  • Deadline: 15 April 2026

  • Shortlist Announcement: 15 May 2026

  • Pitch Interviews: 22 May 2026 (TBC)

  • Final Selection: 5 June 2026

Programme Phases:

  • Online Training: June–July 2026

  • In-Person Training (Jakarta): 11–13 August 2026

  • Project Implementation: September–December 2026

  • Final Reporting: January 2027

  • Capstone Symposium: March 2027

Participants selected for AJYELN 2.0 will benefit from:

- Seed funding of up to 100,000 JPY to implement their projects

- Opportunity to attend an in-person training in Jakarta, Indonesia
Eligibility Criteria
- Young people aged 18–25 years

- Teams of 2–3 members

- Citizens of ASEAN countries or Japan

- Individuals with a strong interest in environmental and social action

- Applicants with basic English communication skills

- Students and non-students from diverse backgrounds are welcome to apply.
