Applications are open for the Australia Awards Fellowship.
Australia Awards Fellowships aim to enhance leadership and influence networks by fostering stronger partnerships between Australian and regional organizations.
Australia Awards Fellowships provide senior and mid-career officials and professionals with opportunities to advance development outcomes and increase institutional capacity in partner countries. Eligible Australian Host Organizations can deepen links with leaders and professionals in developing countries by hosting overseas Fellows.
Priority Sectors
For Round 19, fellowship applications must fit into one (and only one) of the following priority categories:
Climate change, adaptation, resiliency, and the shift to green energy Fellowships focusing on energy transition, nature-based solutions, and adaptation and resilience to climate change, including (but not limited to): blue carbon and carbon markets, climate resilient and regenerative agriculture, climate smart water, sustainable ocean economy, and sustainable mining, as well as transition to low emissions intensive economies, building clean energy supply chains, and hydrogen economy safety training.
Fellowships in health are available in the following areas: sexual and reproductive health and rights; non-communicable diseases, such as mental illness; communicable diseases; strengthening the health system by increasing workforce capacity; health security, such as pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response; and One Health approaches.
Fellowships focusing on gender equality and women's and girls' empowerment, as well as disability equity and social inclusion. For example, proposals for fellowships in disability-inclusive policy and budgeting, responding to and eliminating sexual and gender-based violence, gender-responsive and/or disability inclusive social protection, economic empowerment of women and/or people with disabilities, including access to finance and gender-responsive business enabling environments, and leadership of women could be included.
Fellowships with an emphasis on the digital economy and the future architecture and environment required to offer prosperity, protection, and long-term capabilities (including cyber, critical technology, and media engagement). This could involve avoiding technological obsolescence and future-proofing crucial assets, industries, and technology. Fellowships with an emphasis on the media and journalism industry, such as those on the digital transition, web-based platforms, social media, media viability in the digital era, and other topics, are also encouraged.
Fellowships with an emphasis on maritime cooperation and development that promote long-term prosperity, environmental protection, and maritime cooperation, especially in areas like environmental management and the reduction of plastic pollution, are available under the heading of "Maritime and the Blue Economy." Applications might also concentrate on outcomes for the blue economy's future growth in fields like maritime law and protection, resource management, policy, logistics, cold supply chains, and the switch to maritime supply networks for sustainable green energy.
Infrastructure and connectivity: Fellowships that give Indo-Pacific nations the knowledge and contacts necessary to construct and manage reliable, long-lasting, and high-quality infrastructure and connectivity. Communications, clean energy, disaster preparedness, logistics, public-private partnerships (PPPs), pricing and cost estimation of infrastructure, project planning and management, infrastructure standards, aviation, telecommunications, energy, ports, broadcasting, and transportation could all fall under this category.

There are a maximum of 15 DFAT sponsored Fellows per application.
Except where funding is delivered in Tranches, financing can be implemented across two fiscal years (2023–24 and 2024–25).
- Australian organizations can request funding of up to AUD $34,500 per Fellow, covering return air travel, training, accommodation, living expenses, medical insurance, disability assistance, and program overhead fee.
