Applications are open for the 2026 Growing Roots Grant, an exciting funding opportunity designed to support youth-led climate justice initiatives across the Global South. Through financial support and long-term accompaniment, Powered by Roots seeks to strengthen emerging and growing collectives working to create sustainable and equitable futures.

The Growing Roots Grant provides up to USD 10,000 to selected groups to implement or expand community-driven climate justice projects. Beyond financial support, grantees also gain access to mentorship, capacity-building workshops, and communications support to help amplify their impact and strengthen their organizing strategies.

Program Benefits

Selected groups will receive grants of up to USD 10,000 to support their proposed climate justice projects. The funding can be used to implement new initiatives, strengthen ongoing campaigns, or scale innovative community-based solutions. In addition to financial assistance, recipients will benefit from mentorship and strategic guidance provided by the Powered by Roots team and partners.

Grantees will also participate in capacity-building workshops designed to enhance organizational development, storytelling, communications, and movement-building skills. This holistic support ensures that funded groups are not only resourced financially but also strengthened institutionally to sustain and grow their impact beyond the grant period.

Eligibility Criteria

This opportunity is open to youth-led grassroots groups primarily based in the Global South, including regions such as Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Pacific. Eligible groups must be led by young people, typically between the ages of 18 and 35, with youth making up the majority of leadership and decision-making roles.

Applicants do not need to be legally registered organizations, making this opportunity particularly accessible to informal collectives and emerging movements. Projects should demonstrate a strong commitment to climate justice, community autonomy, narrative change, or advocacy efforts aimed at addressing systemic environmental and social challenges. Groups should clearly show how their initiative will create tangible community impact and contribute to long-term structural change.
