FULLY FUNDED: Apply for the Commonwealth Distance Learning Master‘s Scholarship 2026/27 for young people in developing commonwealth countries
Applications are now open for the 2026/2027 Commonwealth Distance Learning Master’s Scholarships. This opportunity is part of the Commonwealth Distance Learning programme, one of three Master’s-level scholarship routes supported by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) in the United Kingdom.
The CSC manages the UK government’s scholarship scheme, guided by international development goals. It operates under the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) and reflects the UK’s long-standing commitment to strengthening partnerships across the Commonwealth through education and skills development.
These scholarships are designed for outstanding postgraduate applicants from least developed and middle-income Commonwealth countries, including those affected by fragility and conflict. The programme supports individuals who need to remain in their home country while studying, or who want access to specialised training that may not be available locally. Applicants should also demonstrate strong potential to contribute to national development through the knowledge, professional skills, and leadership abilities gained during the programme.
The scholarship can run for up to six years, depending on the structure of the selected course. Funding is provided on a continuing basis, reflecting the modular format of many distance learning programmes.
To be eligible, applicants must be a citizen of an eligible Commonwealth country, have refugee status in an eligible country, or be a British Protected Person. They must also be permanently living in a developing Commonwealth country. By September 2026, applicants should hold a first degree equivalent to at least an upper second class (2:1). In some cases, candidates with a lower academic qualification may still be considered if they have strong and relevant professional experience. Applicants must also show that they would not be able to afford the programme without financial support and must submit all required supporting documents in the correct format.
Only applicants from the countries listed below are eligible to apply: Bangladesh, Belize, Botswana, Cameroon, Dominica, Eswatini, Fiji, Gabon, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Malawi, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Montserrat, Mozambique, Namibia, Nauru, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Rwanda, Saint Helena, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, The Gambia, Togo, Tonga, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, and Zambia.
Successful candidates will receive support that covers tuition fees, along with study grants where applicable. Applicants should note that they cannot hold another scholarship, bursary, or award at the same time if it pays for the same costs.
