FULLY FUNDED : Apply for the Ireland Fellows Programme Africa 2027/2028 – Scholarships
Applications are now open for the Ireland Fellows Programme Africa 2027/2028, offering fully funded postgraduate scholarships for outstanding professionals from eligible African countries to pursue master's degrees at leading higher education institutions in Ireland.
The programme aims to strengthen leadership, enhance professional capacity, and support individuals committed to advancing sustainable development in their home countries while fostering long-term partnerships between Africa and Ireland.
Scholarship Benefits
Successful applicants will receive a comprehensive scholarship package that supports their postgraduate studies in Ireland. The fellowship covers the major costs associated with studying abroad, allowing participants to focus on their academic and professional development.
Fields of Study
Applicants may choose from a wide range of eligible master's programmes, including but not limited to:
- Agriculture and Food Security
- Public Health and Health Sciences
- Education
- Human Rights and Governance
- Computer Science and Information Technology
- Engineering
- Business and Management
- Environmental and Sustainable Development Studies
- Social Sciences
- Other approved programmes listed in the Ireland Fellows Programme directory
Applicants from some countries may apply by invitation through designated Irish Aid partner organisations or the relevant Embassy of Ireland.
Applicants who have previously applied to the Ireland Fellows Programme more than once are not eligible.
Selection Process
The application process is completed in three stages:
- Preliminary application
- Detailed application
- Interview for shortlisted candidates
Applicants progressing beyond the initial stage may also be required to complete an approved English language assessment, such as the Duolingo English Test or IELTS, depending on their chosen university's admission requirements.
Important Information
The fellowship supports the selected scholar only. Financial assistance for spouses, dependents, or accompanying family members is not included.
Candidates are encouraged to review the country-specific guidance before applying, as eligibility conditions and application procedures may vary depending on the applicant's country.

Additional Information
- Hold a bachelor's degree from a recognised institution, normally awarded in 2015 or later.
- Have a strong academic record equivalent to at least an upper second-class honours degree or higher (or equivalent qualification).
- Possess at least two to three years of relevant professional work experience, depending on their country of application.
- Be applying for a new master's degree beginning in Ireland in the 2027/2028 academic year.
- Not already possess a master's degree or higher qualification (subject to limited country-specific exceptions).
- Demonstrate leadership ability and a commitment to contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- Show a genuine intention to apply the knowledge gained to support development in their home country.
- Select three eligible master's programmes that align with their academic background and career goals.
- Meet the English language requirements for admission to Irish universities.
