Applications are open for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Rwanda. The program supports academically talented and service-oriented young people from across Africa who face social and economic barriers to higher education. Through this initiative, the University of Rwanda seeks to nurture ethical and transformative leaders who will contribute to Africa’s development and create positive change within their communities.

Program Benefits

Successful applicants will receive comprehensive financial and non-financial support throughout their studies. The scholarship covers full tuition fees, registration fees, on-campus accommodation, learning materials, a laptop, and return travel expenses where applicable. Scholars also benefit from academic mentorship, psychosocial support, leadership development training, entrepreneurship programs, internship opportunities, and access to a network of young African leaders.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be citizens of Rwanda or any other African country, including refugees and displaced youth residing in Africa. Candidates should demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, resilience, and a strong commitment to community service and giving back to society. In addition, applicants must meet the admission requirements of the University of Rwanda and must be newly admitted students who have not yet commenced their studies at the institution.

Eligible Countries

The scholarship is open to applicants from all African countries. Special consideration is given to young women, particularly those pursuing STEM disciplines, refugees and displaced youth, and persons with disabilities.
