FULLY FUNDED: Apply for the Swedish Institute Scholarships 2026/27 for masters studies in Sweden
Applications are currently open for the 2026/2027 Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals. This prestigious opportunity offers academic funding for individuals pursuing master’s studies in Sweden. The program is aimed at talented professionals from specific countries who wish to undertake full-time, one- or two-year master’s degrees at Swedish universities. A wide range of English-taught programmes are covered, including those in governance, public health, entrepreneurship and innovation, and the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).
Those selected for the award will also gain membership in the SI Network for Global Professionals — an international platform that connects emerging leaders from across the world, fostering collaboration, continuous learning, and lifelong professional relationships.
Applicants must hold citizenship from one of the countries eligible for the Swedish Institute scholarship. It is not necessary to be living in the home country at the time of applying. Candidates must apply for master’s programmes that are recognized as eligible under the scholarship, and the official list of these programmes will be made available in mid-November 2025. Additionally, candidates must meet the Swedish university admission requirements, be required to pay tuition fees, and be officially admitted to one of the qualifying master’s programmes by the time admission results are released.
Eligible applicants are also expected to demonstrate relevant work experience, with specific conditions depending on their region. Leadership experience is another key requirement, which may come from their professional background or involvement in civil society initiatives. Citizens from countries such as Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, South Africa, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Indonesia, Vietnam, and several others are among those qualified to apply.
This highly competitive scholarship provides full financial support. It covers all tuition fees, which are paid directly to the respective Swedish university each semester. In addition, recipients receive a monthly living allowance of SEK 12,000 to help cover daily expenses during their studies. A one-time travel grant of SEK 15,000 is also provided to most scholars, while applicants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine receive SEK 10,000. Those already residing in Sweden are not eligible for the travel grant.
Beyond financial support, recipients become part of the SI Network for Global Professionals, where they can exchange ideas, collaborate, and build professional connections during their studies. Once the scholarship period concludes, graduates are invited to join the Sweden Alumni Network — an exclusive community that offers further opportunities for professional growth and international engagement.
The scholarship, however, does not include health or travel insurance, and applicants are advised to check with their universities regarding available coverage. It also does not offer additional funding for dependents, cover the university admission application fee, or permit any changes to the chosen master’s programme or the duration of the scholarship once awarded.
