Fully-funded: Apply for the United Nations Climate Change CAPACITY Fellowship Programme

The UN Climate Change Fellowship Programme continues to support mid-career professionals from Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs) by offering specialized training and practical experience in global climate action. Thanks to new funding from Portugal and Italy, even more professionals can now take part in this impactful opportunity.

Portugal’s funding is focused on supporting professionals from Portuguese-speaking SIDS and LDCs, specifically within the Transparency Division of the secretariat. Italy’s contribution, on the other hand, facilitates fellowship placements in the Means of Implementation and Adaptation divisions.

About the CAPACITY Fellowship Programme
Formally known as the Capacity Award Programme to Advance Capabilities and Institutional Training in One Year (CAPACITY), this fellowship targets mid-career professionals currently employed in government positions within SIDS or LDCs. Fellows will gain hands-on experience at UN Climate Change in Bonn, Germany, for up to two years.

Candidates are selected with the goal of enhancing their home organizations’ capacity to tackle climate-related challenges through the knowledge and skills gained during the fellowship.

The CAPACITY Fellowship Program serves as a link between local reality and global policy. According to Alejandro Kilpatrick, Means of Implementation Manager at UN Climate Change, it enables professionals in their mid-career to successfully negotiate intricate political environments and contribute their distinct perspectives to global climate action. "The program not only improves the knowledge of professionals from SIDS and LDCs, but their viewpoints also significantly advance our work."

Key Goals of the Fellowship
The three main goals of the CAPACITY Fellowship Program are as follows:

Encourage creative efforts to address climate change within the context of sustainable development.
Encourage a global network of innovative professionals to address climate issues.
Develop the leadership potential of up-and-coming experts in their disciplines.

Don't miss out on the application deadline which is 23 March 2025.
