In the face of the unprecedented heatwaves, storms, and droughts experienced in 2023, the global community grapples with the relentless impact of climate change. Particularly, the regions of Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia, often most severely affected, are in dire need of heightened awareness and immediate action. CNN Academy, in collaboration with The Rockefeller Foundation, is taking a significant step by empowering 15 young journalists from developing nations. Together, they are launching an innovative program aimed at amplifying their voices and highlighting stories that demand our attention.
What We Provide:
The selected participants will embark on a transformative journey, immersing themselves in the intricacies of climate change reporting through a comprehensive training program offered by CNN Academy. During this program, they will learn:
1. Understanding Climate Science: Gaining a deep understanding of climate science and its impact on local communities.
2. Investigative Journalism: Mastering techniques and data-driven reporting methods specifically tailored to climate change.
3. Effective Communication: Developing the ability to convey complex scientific information to diverse audiences with clarity and impact.
4. Ethical Reporting: Navigating ethical considerations, fostering community engagement, and ensuring fair representation in climate reporting.
5. Multimedia Storytelling: Embracing various mediums, including visual storytelling, video production, and engaging on social media.
6. Fact-Checking and Combating Misinformation: Acquiring the skills to verify sources, counter misinformation, and uphold the highest journalistic standards.

Reside and work in a Global South country.
Identify as content creators, journalists, or storytellers in early career stages.

Commit to actively participating in the entire training program and applying acquired skills to their reporting projects.
Are available to attend the Climate Storytelling Simulation in Abu Dhabi from December 3rd to December 10th.
