FULLY FUNDED: Apply for this MSc/ Ph.D. at Auburn University in Climate, Hydrology, and Data Science for Spring 2024
Auburn University's Department of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences is seeking Ph.D. students interested in climate data science and impact modeling. The prospective students will have the opportunity to conduct research focused on understanding and predicting climate indicators, extreme climate events, and their impacts on water, food, and ecosystems. The research will involve utilizing data science, artificial intelligence (AI), and process-based modeling approaches, incorporating climate/earth system data from various sources like sensors, satellites, and numerical simulations.
The research work aims to inform decision-making, climate adaptations, and resilience actions in food and agricultural systems, ecosystems, and water resources. It will also involve interactions with stakeholders at regional and national scales, such as the climate prediction center, agricultural community, coastal community, and federal emergency management agency.
Applicants for the Ph.D. positions should have a background in a science or engineering field, such as hydrology, meteorology, climate/earth science, environmental science or engineering, agricultural and biological engineering, geography, computer science, statistics, physics, or related fields. They should possess a Master's (MS) or Bachelor's (BS) degree at the time of starting the Ph.D. program and demonstrate a strong commitment to studying climate/hydrologic issues using statistical analysis, machine learning, and process-based models. Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, R, etc.) and excellent written and verbal communication skills are desirable qualities.
The application deadline is open until filled, and the review of applications will begin immediately. Interested candidates can apply by sending an email to Dr. Di Tian (tiandi@auburn.edu) containing their personal statement, Academic CV, unofficial transcripts, and contact information for three references. For any inquiries or questions about the position, applicants can contact Dr. Di Tian directly via email.
