Applications are open for the UNESCO Kingdoms Institute – AlUla Fellowships Programme 2025, a fully funded initiative designed to support heritage professionals in advancing their research and conservation skills. This fellowship provides an exceptional opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the AlUla region of Saudi Arabia, a site of immense cultural and historical significance. Fellows will engage in projects related to heritage preservation, World Heritage management, and emergency preparedness, working closely with experts from UNESCO and the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU). The programme aims to strengthen international collaboration, foster scientific knowledge, and equip participants with practical skills that they can apply in their home countries and professional careers.

Program Benefits
This is a fully funded programme covering all essential costs. Fellows will participate in a 24-month fellowship structured into three rotations. The first rotation consists of a six-month fellowship at the Kingdoms Institute in AlUla, focusing on research and conservation projects. The second rotation involves a twelve-month sponsored traineeship under the UNESCO Culture Programme at one of UNESCO’s duty stations, including Paris HQ or regional field offices across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. The third rotation lasts six months and takes place in the fellow’s home country, enabling them to apply and disseminate the knowledge and skills gained.

In addition to the structured programme, fellows receive round-trip international travel, local transportation, accommodation, living stipends in line with UN regulations, medical insurance, and visa sponsorship. Participants will also have access to mentorship and networking opportunities with leading heritage experts and institutions, further strengthening their professional development and global impact.
Eligibility Criteria
The fellowship is open to highly skilled heritage professionals worldwide who hold relevant academic qualifications and practical experience in areas such as archaeology, built heritage, cultural landscapes, or intangible cultural heritage. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to heritage preservation and conservation, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in international settings. Proficiency in English is required, while knowledge of Arabic is considered an advantage. Applicants should be ready to engage in both fieldwork in Saudi Arabia and assignments at UNESCO offices, applying their expertise to real-world heritage challenges.
