Each selected fellow will receive a stipend of US$6,600 over 12 months. Fellows will benefit from weekly one-on-one mentorship with experienced science journalists who will provide feedback on pitching, reporting, and writing. Participants will produce four feature stories (1,500–2,000 words each) for The Open Notebook, building a strong professional portfolio. In addition, fellows will join a supportive community of peers and past fellows through an active Slack group, ensuring continued networking and collaboration even after the fellowship ends.

The fellowship welcomes applications from early-career science journalists worldwide who have fewer than three years of professional experience in the field, excluding internships or student roles. Applicants should already have some experience or training in communicating science to a general audience and be eager to grow as professional science journalists. All application materials must be in English, although translated work samples are accepted. Fellows must be able to dedicate 5–7 hours per week to the program, including mentorship sessions, writing assignments, and community participation.
