Applications are open for the 2026 KAS Media Africa Local Journalism Award, offering journalists an opportunity to showcase impactful storytelling from their communities. This award celebrates reporting that captures the everyday experiences of people, highlights issues that matter locally, and links community perspectives to broader national and global conversations. Journalists working in print, digital platforms, radio, television, or creative social media formats are encouraged to submit pieces that demonstrate strong reporting skills and underline the value of grassroots journalism.

To take part, applicants should include a short explanation of the context behind their story, mention where it was originally published, and, if available, describe how audiences reacted to it. Only work released during 2025 will be considered, and entries may be submitted in either English or French.

The three selected journalists will be invited to attend the Local Journalism Conference scheduled to take place in Malawi in February 2026, hosted by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung’s Regional Media Programme for Sub-Saharan Africa. Each winner will also receive financial support to further develop their journalistic initiatives.
