Applications are open for KESSA – The Young Pan-African Storytellers Programme, a new initiative created by UM6P Story School in partnership with the French-African Foundation to uplift emerging voices shaping Africa’s narrative. The programme is built on the belief that sharing the continent’s stories has the power to reshape its future, and it brings together 30 talented creators from across Africa for an intensive creative residency in Morocco. Writers, filmmakers, journalists, photographers, digital innovators, and cultural entrepreneurs come together for a transformative week dedicated to imagination, collaboration, and creative growth.

During the residency, participants take part in advanced learning sessions, practical creative workshops, and interactive labs designed to strengthen their storytelling craft. They also engage directly with accomplished African and global creators, gaining fresh perspectives and professional insights. The cohort becomes part of a dynamic network of creatives from different regions of the continent, culminating in a final showcase where participants present the work they have developed throughout the week.

KESSA extends far beyond the residency itself. Once the immersive experience ends, participants join the expanding KESSA Alumni Network—a long-term community of narrative shapers, innovators, and cultural voices. This network offers continuous opportunities, support, and collaboration, serving as a platform for creators who aim to influence and redefine how African stories are told. For many, the programme becomes a springboard for new partnerships, projects, and recognition across the continent.

The immersive week takes place in Morocco from 23 to 28 March 2026, offering six days of creative exploration and shared learning. Participants engage in sessions on storytelling techniques, writing, visual narratives, journalism, digital culture, narrative leadership, and more. Practical labs allow them to experiment with audiovisual production, 360° storytelling, identity building, and collaborative creation. They also meet influential artists, journalists, entrepreneurs, researchers, and other creators from Africa and beyond. Throughout the week, each participant contributes to an original production—whether a short film, podcast, written piece, or artistic project—which is later showcased across Pan-African platforms.

To be considered, applicants must be between 25 and 40 years old, have at least five years of experience in their creative field, and demonstrate a strong body of narrative or artistic work. They should maintain an active audience engaged with African issues, show commitment to advancing a constructive and impactful African narrative, and present clear potential to influence their field meaningfully.
