The 2025–2026 Columbia University Obama Foundation Scholars Program is now accepting applications. Rising leaders from the US and other countries who have shown a dedication to solving problems in their communities and nations are brought together by Columbia University's Obama Foundation Scholars Program.
During a nine-month, fully-funded residency on campus at Columbia World Projects (CWP), scholars expand their knowledge and abilities while creating new networks and capacities to increase their influence.
In an immersive program created by Columbia University in collaboration with the Obama Foundation, scholars engage in academic, skills-based, and experiential learning. Important elements of the program consist of:
A year-long weekly seminar that examines critical global issues such as inequality, technological advancements, power shifts, migration, and climate change. Scholars also participate in personal and professional development workshops to build practical leadership skills, with past topics including conflict resolution, public speaking, data analysis, and resilience.
The program includes an experiential learning element through active engagement with Columbia World Projects and allows Scholars to audit up to two graduate-level courses each semester, offering flexibility in course selection. Additionally, a “Thought Leadership” speaker series connects Scholars with experienced professionals from NGOs, philanthropy, government, and international organizations, broadening their networks and perspectives.
Each Scholar is paired with a Columbia faculty advisor with expertise in relevant fields, providing valuable insights to inform their work. Scholars also engage with the broader Columbia University community, contributing to campus intellectual life and gaining exposure to diverse viewpoints.
Don't miss out on the application deadline which is December 16 at 5 PM EST.
