FULLY FUNDED TO SOUTH AFRICA : Apply for the REimagining african narratives Photography Fellowship

Are you a photographer or visual artist looking to explore deeper narratives and fresh approaches for your lens-based work? Do you need editorial guidance and support in shaping an ongoing project? Are you ready to broaden your visual storytelling through publications, exhibitions, and multimedia platforms?

Reimagining African Narratives is a 6-month photography fellowship that promotes responsible collaboration from an African viewpoint. Participants engage in both online and in-person workshops, receiving expert mentorship to advance long-term projects, challenge conventional documentary formats, and reach a global audience through hands-on editing and publishing sessions.

In a world marked by inequality, this mentorship focuses on ethical community engagement, the critical role of the environment, and the sharing of diverse perspectives and knowledge.

Fellows will work closely with renowned mentors Alexa Becker (Germany), Rehab Eldalil (Egypt), and Federico Estol (Uruguay), all experts in crafting community-focused narratives.

The program prioritizes responsibility, challenges stereotypes, and aims to create impactful publications.

Key topics covered include:
- Ethics, aesthetics, and relevant theoretical frameworks.
- Developing narratives tied to specific regions.
- Decolonizing visual strategies and representations of the Global South.
- Innovative methods of community engagement through photography.
- Project conceptualization, editing, and the construction of visual stories.
- Exploring different formats for publication and distribution (e.g., exhibitions, publications).
- Strategies for growing and engaging an audience.
