FULLY FUNDED TO SWITZERLAND : Apply for the Minorities Fellowship Programme

Established in 2005, the Minorities Fellowship Programme (MFP) is the OHCHR's most extensive training initiative for human rights and minority rights defenders from national, ethnic, religious, and linguistic minorities.

By the end of the MFP, participants are expected to have a solid understanding of the United Nations system, international human rights frameworks, and mechanisms, with a specific focus on minority rights. They should also be equipped to train others within their communities or organizations.

The Programme offers human rights activists the chance to expand their network by fostering strategic dialogue with fellow activists, the United Nations, Geneva-based NGOs, and other partners.

Don't miss out on the application deadline which is 8 December 2024.

Program Benefits
The Programme offers human rights activists the chance to expand their network by fostering strategic dialogue with fellow activists, the United Nations, Geneva-based NGOs, and other partners.

The MFP is available in three languages: English, Russian, and Arabic, and takes place in Geneva, Switzerland. Fellows receive:

A return (economy class) flight to Geneva from their home country
Basic health insurance for the duration of the Programme
A stipend to cover modest accommodation and living expenses during their stay
Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must be a member of a national, ethnic, linguistic, or religious minority group (individuals who are not part of a minority group will not be considered, even if they have strong connections with minority communities or organizations).

Note: If your community identifies as indigenous, please apply to the Indigenous Fellowship Programme instead, which has its own application process and deadlines.

Formal education is not a requirement for participating in the Minorities Fellowship Programme, as long as relevant experience can be demonstrated.

Applicants should be able, willing, and in a position to train other minority members upon their return to their communities or organizations, and they must commit to doing so. They must also have a good command of the language in which the programme is conducted.

The candidate should be nominated and supported by their organization or community. It is preferable that the sponsoring organization:
- Has a solid constituency or membership in the minority group
- Represents minority issues
- Works on minority-related matters
- Is composed of members from the minority group

The primary aim of the Minorities Fellowship Programme is to equip minority individuals with the knowledge and skills to assist their organizations and communities in advocating for and protecting human and minority rights. Therefore, it is crucial that the candidate nominated by a minority organization or community intends to return and work in this area within their NGO.
