FULLY FUNDED TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA: Apply for the McCain Institute Global Leaders Program 2025 for young changemakers from across the globe

Applications are now open for the 2025 cohort of the prestigious McCain Institute Global Leaders Program, designed to equip changemakers with the tools and networks needed to address pressing global challenges. To stay relevant in today’s complex world, the program will focus on a global theme, complemented by specific regional focus areas, ensuring participants work on issues most pertinent to their communities. Over 12 months, participants will engage in both regional and global activities, fostering collaboration within a professional peer network at home and across the globe.

The central theme for 2025 is Advancing Democracy and Human Rights, with each region addressing a tailored sub-theme. In the Western Hemisphere, the focus will be on safeguarding the rights of migrants, while in Europe and Eurasia, efforts will target combating authoritarianism. Africa and the Middle East will prioritize conflict resolution foundations, and Asia and Oceania will delve into navigating great power dynamics in the Asia-Pacific. Up to 25 leaders will join the program, representing diverse perspectives and experiences across four regions.

The program seeks individuals who have a demonstrated commitment to making a difference. Ideal candidates are mid- to senior-career professionals actively engaged in advancing democracy and addressing their region’s specific challenges. While there’s no age limit, most participants fall between the ages of 25 and 45. Applicants should embody a dedication to serving a greater cause, possess strong English language skills, and be ready to fully engage in virtual sessions, in-person gatherings, and alumni activities.

Throughout the program, participants will benefit from three significant in-person events supported by online learning. These experiences emphasize leadership development inspired by the legacy of Senator John McCain, blending peer mentorship with problem-solving activities. The first event, the Leadership Experience, takes place in the fall of 2025 at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, and in Washington, D.C. During this 10-day program, participants will delve into leadership principles, collaborate with experts, and define their personal leadership goals.

In early 2026, regional cohorts will gather for the Changemaker Tour, which involves five-day study tours in selected host countries. These tours will focus on regional connections and thematic explorations while fostering professional collaborations. Locations for previous tours include Colombia, Poland, Singapore, and South Africa. The journey concludes in Vietnam with the Legacy Experience, a capstone event that brings all leaders together. This seven-day trip explores the profound relationship between Senator McCain and Vietnam, offering participants a chance to reflect, connect with alumni, and chart the next phase of their leadership journey.

The program is fully funded, covering all travel, accommodation, and visa costs. Participants also receive a stipend to cover incidental expenses. With no minimum educational or professional requirements, the program prioritizes diversity in gender, ethnicity, and professional backgrounds, welcoming individuals from all walks of life who are committed to driving meaningful change.

If you are ready to join a global network of changemakers and contribute to defending democracy and human rights, this program offers a unique opportunity to gain the skills, connections, and inspiration to lead impactful change.
