Applications are now being accepted for the 2026/2027 Atlantic Fellows for Social and Economic Equity (AFSEE) Programme, a prestigious initiative designed for social-change leaders dedicated to addressing inequality in all its forms. This fully-funded opportunity, hosted by the International Inequalities Institute at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), invites policymakers, researchers, activists, artists, practitioners, and movement-builders from across the globe to join an innovative fellowship experience focused on driving lasting change.

Currently seeking its tenth cohort, the programme targets mid-career professionals who have devoted at least seven years to advancing fairness and equity within their fields. Candidates from a wide range of sectors are encouraged to apply, including those working on economic and social rights, environmental and sustainability issues, tax and fiscal justice, gender and minority rights, disability inclusion, access to education, urban development, labor rights, cultural activism, peacebuilding, and community organizing. Since its launch in 2016, the AFSEE Fellowship has brought together more than 150 changemakers from over 60 countries, aiming to establish a vibrant network of 400 fellows over two decades.

The fellowship offers two distinct pathways—Residential and Non-Residential—each beginning with a year of active participation centered on deep learning, reflection, and skills development. Fellows benefit from an intellectually stimulating environment at LSE, where education is rooted in collaboration and dialogue. Those selected for the Residential track spend a full year in London completing the MSc in Inequalities and Social Science degree while also participating in specialized modules led by scholars, practitioners, and campaigners. These sessions explore the structural roots of inequality, policy responses, and transformative approaches to building fairer societies.

Applicants for the Residential Fellowship must meet LSE’s entry criteria for the MSc programme, including holding at least a 2:1 degree (or equivalent) and fulfilling the university’s English language requirements. A background in social sciences or social policy is advantageous but not mandatory. Candidates are expected to have at least seven years of proven experience in leadership, courage, and advocacy toward equitable change. Individuals who have recently completed a PhD or MSc, or who are currently enrolled in a degree, are generally not eligible for the Residential option.

For those who cannot commit to a full-time program in London, the Non-Residential Fellowship allows participants to remain in their home countries while engaging in in-person modules throughout the year. This route is open to applicants both with and without undergraduate degrees, reflecting the programme’s inclusive approach to recognizing diverse pathways to leadership. Fellows are expected to dedicate approximately five hours per week to readings, coursework, and their independent fellowship projects, which focus on creating practical, innovative responses to inequality in their respective communities.

The Residential track is entirely funded, covering full tuition fees for the MSc degree, return travel to London, visa-related expenses, and a living stipend of £23,000 for the duration of the year. Upon completion of the active fellowship year, all participants—Residential and Non-Residential alike—become Senior Fellows and gain lifelong membership in a global network of Atlantic Fellows. This extended community provides continuous opportunities for collaboration, mentorship, and joint action among leaders driving systemic change around the world.
