Applications are now open for the 2025 ICFJ/ONE Michael Elliott Award for Excellence in African Storytelling, which celebrates emerging African journalists dedicated to amplifying voices and showcasing transformative changes across the continent.
Eligible entries should feature impactful journalism published between December 1, 2023, and December 1, 2024. Winners will be chosen based on the quality and community impact of their work.
Submissions across all media are encouraged, with a particular emphasis on pieces that demonstrate both strong analytical skills and exceptional writing.

Program Benefits
A $5,000 cash reward and a customised award certificate will be given to the winners. The winners will get the unique chance to take part in a two-week professional development course at The Economist's London, UK headquarters.
Eligibility Criteria
Entries must have been published between December 1, 2023, and December 1, 2024. The competition is open to English-speaking journalists in Africa working in print, broadcast, or online media, with no more than 10 years of journalism experience.
Applicants should submit a single published story that thoughtfully portrays Africa through impactful investigative or explanatory reporting, especially those highlighting transformative changes on the continent. A copy of the story or broadcast clip in English is required; non-English works must include English translations.
Submissions are welcome from print, broadcast, or digital journalists, including multimedia formats like web, audio, video, visual, or mixed media.
