Applications are open for the Bergel Institute Fellowships 2026–2027, a fully funded, year-long opportunity designed for individuals seeking to develop original ideas that advance human knowledge and contribute meaningfully to the human condition.

The Fellowship welcomes applicants from anywhere in the world and supports independent thinkers, researchers, innovators, and creators working across a range of disciplines.

Fellowship Focus Areas

Projects must align with one of six broad fields:

• Economics

• Science

• Technology

• Consciousness

• Health

• Culture

Each cycle includes suggested topic areas; however, applicants may also propose independent projects, provided they align with the Institute’s mission.

The program is structured to function as both a research fellowship and an incubator. Fellows receive mentorship, structured monthly meetings, and quarterly progress reviews designed to support steady development and tangible outcomes.

Time Commitment

Fellows are expected to commit approximately 1,000 hours over the course of the year (roughly 20 hours per week). The program emphasizes intrinsic motivation, sustained inquiry, and meaningful output.

In-Person Engagement

Although the Fellowship is primarily virtual, two in-person visits to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida are required:

• August 21, 2026 – End of Q1 presentation

• May 21, 2027 – Final presentation and next-steps plan

The final presentation highlights achievements from the Fellowship year and outlines future directions.

Expected Outcomes

Final deliverables may take different forms depending on the nature of the project, including:

• Research manuscripts

• Data sets

• Documentary or multimedia productions

• Business or nonprofit launches

• Technological prototypes

• Cultural or public-facing initiatives

Upon completion of the Fellowship, participants join the Institute’s alumni network and serve as mentors for future Fellows.
