Graduate students pursuing master's, doctorate, and juris doctor degrees in subjects like economics, law, political science, and public policy are eligible to apply for the one-year competitive Frédéric Bastiat Fellowship.

With the help of this fellowship, students will be exposed to the Austrian, Virginia, and Bloomington schools of political economics as scholarly bases for current policy analysis, academic research that is pertinent to policy, and other practical subjects. Fellows will learn how this framework is applied to a range of topics (including entrepreneurship, technological innovation, public health, regulation, immigration, natural disasters and military conflicts, and federal and state fiscal policy) through a series of colloquia with Mercatus scholars who work on policy analysis and policy-relevant academic research. Fellows will be a part of a network of scholars, students, and alumni from Mercatus engaged in cutting edge political economy research.

About the fellowship

Part of George Mason University, the Mercatus Centre is a well-known research institute devoted to expanding our knowledge of how markets successfully address societal issues and promote happier, healthier, and wealthier lives. Mercatus has dedicated itself for more than 40 years to advancing elite talent and scholarship in mainstream economics, bringing rigorous research to bear on pressing concerns in society. Mercatus imagines a society in which markets close the gap between theory and practice to maximise plenty, civility, and well-being.

Don't miss out on the application deadline which is 15 March 2024.
