FUNDED : Apply for the Energy Community Summer School 2026 – Albania

Applications are now open for the 10th edition of the Energy Community Summer School, a flagship international programme designed to prepare the next generation of energy leaders. The Summer School will take place from 22 to 29 August 2026 at Polis University in Tirana, Albania, bringing together talented young professionals and scholars from across Europe and beyond.

Organised by the Energy Community Secretariat, in cooperation with the Visegrad Fund (IVF), GIZ GmbH under the Regional Climate Partnership (RCP), and Polis University, the programme offers a unique, immersive learning experience focused on energy sectors in transition.

About the Programme

The Energy Community Summer School is tailored for postgraduate students, researchers, and early-career professionals seeking a deeper understanding of the energy transition. The curriculum explores energy systems and markets through technical, economic, legal, political, geopolitical, cultural, and sustainability perspectives.

Participants engage in a blend of:

  • High-level academic lectures delivered by leading scholars

  • Practical case studies and mock cases

  • Guest lectures from energy practitioners and industry experts

  • Interactive discussions on current energy policy challenges

The academic programme is complemented by cultural and social activities, including a welcome reception, guided city tour, and a full-day excursion, offering first-hand insight into Albania and the wider Energy Community region.

Over the years, the Summer School has served as a launchpad for alumni who now hold influential roles in policy-making, academia, energy companies, NGOs, and international institutions.

Selection Process

Up to 40 participants will be selected based on:

  • A short policy paper (maximum 5 pages) analysing a pressing energy policy issue

  • Prior experience or academic background in energy-related fields

  • Geographic and gender balance

This Summer School offers a rare opportunity to gain cutting-edge insights into energy transition challenges, expand professional networks, and contribute to shaping the future of energy in Europe and neighbouring regions.

Program Benefits
Participants selected for the Summer School will benefit from:

- 3 ECTS credits, accredited under the European Credit Transfer System

- All programme-related costs covered, including tuition, accommodation, excursions, and most meals

- An international study experience in Albania

- In-depth knowledge of energy markets, regulation, and policy in transition economies

- Opportunities to build strong professional networks with peers and experts from multiple countries

The only cost participants are required to cover is travel to and from Tirana. Participants selected from outside the eligible country list may be asked to contribute approximately EUR 300 for food and accommodation.
Eligibility Criteria
- Master’s and PhD students

- Researchers from all disciplines

- Young professionals from government institutions, energy companies, think tanks, NGOs, and related organisations

Applicants must:

- Be under 35 years of age at the time of the Summer School

- Be fluent in written and spoken English

- Hold citizenship of eligible countries (including EU Member States, Western Balkans, selected Eastern European countries, and others, with limited places for applicants outside the list)
