FUNDED: Apply for the FAO Regional Office for Africa (RAF) 2026 Internship Programme for young Africans

Applications are currently open for the 2026 Internship Programme at the FAO Regional Office for Africa (RAF). The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is at the forefront of global efforts to eliminate hunger and ensure food security, striving to guarantee that people everywhere have consistent access to sufficient, high-quality food to live active and healthy lives. Operating in over 130 countries with more than 195 member states, the FAO addresses challenges in agriculture, nutrition, and rural development worldwide.

The Internship Programme is designed to engage motivated young individuals who are eager to contribute fresh perspectives, innovative solutions, and the latest academic knowledge to the FAO’s work. It offers participants a practical learning experience, allowing them to complement their theoretical studies with hands-on assignments related to the organization’s mission.

Interns are expected to report directly to an assigned supervisor and may be placed in different areas depending on their qualifications and the organization’s requirements. They will carry out tasks as outlined in the Terms of Reference provided by the hosting office, contributing to projects and initiatives aligned with FAO’s goals.

Eligible candidates must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at a recognized educational institution, or have recently graduated. Only qualifications from institutions listed in the World Higher Education Database (WHED) will be considered. Applicants should focus their studies on areas relevant to FAO’s mandate, demonstrate proficiency in at least one official FAO language—Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, or Spanish—and familiarity with a second language is advantageous. Applicants must be nationals of FAO member countries, between the ages of 21 and 30, and possess the ability to thrive in a multicultural international environment while exhibiting strong communication skills.

Interns are expected to demonstrate competencies in achieving results, working effectively in teams, communicating clearly, building productive relationships, and continuously sharing knowledge and improving their skills. The programme provides an opportunity to gain meaningful experience, contribute to global food security, and develop professional skills in an international context.
