Funded : Apply for the Foundry Fellowship (Africa)
The Foundry Fellowship, an eight-month transformative program for successful entrepreneurs committed to driving the acceleration and interconnection of Africa's innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems, is now accepting applications.
This fellowship targets values-driven individuals committed to driving systemic change and fostering inclusive development across the African continent.
Structured as a cohort-based initiative, the program selects between 10 and 15 fellows annually. By progressing through the experience as a group, participants benefit from a collaborative and supportive setting that empowers them to navigate pivotal moments and shape the next phase of their professional and leadership paths. The program’s selective intake, carefully chosen participant profile, and uniquely crafted curriculum foster a deeply enriching and transformative environment.
The learning journey features personal leadership development sessions, academic engagement with MIT faculty, and hands-on exploration of innovation hubs, including guided visits to various entrepreneurial ecosystems across Africa. This immersive structure equips fellows with the tools and insights needed to lead initiatives that stimulate ecosystem growth in their local contexts and beyond.
Fellowship Expectations
Prospective applicants should understand that joining the Foundry Fellowship involves a significant investment of time, focus, and engagement.
Success in this program depends on a strong dedication—not only to your own growth but also to your fellow participants and the broader community of innovation-focused entrepreneurs across Africa. Applicants are encouraged to carefully consider the following expectations before submitting an application:
-
Proficiency in English: Since all fellowship activities are conducted in English, participants must be able to articulate complex concepts both in writing and speaking with confidence.
-
Full participation: Fellows are required to attend all scheduled online sessions as well as in-person gatherings throughout the program.
-
Travel responsibilities: While the program will cover many of the costs related to ecosystem tours—including accommodation, group meals, and local transportation—participants are expected to arrange and fund their own travel to and from the tour locations, along with some other incidental travel expenses.
-
Active engagement: Fellows must be fully present during all sessions, contributing thoughtfully to discussions and engaging meaningfully with peers.
-
Final presentation: At the conclusion of the fellowship, each participant will be expected to share their planned next steps with fellow participants and the wider fellowship community.
