Applications are open for the Tom Queba Scholarships for Social Change 2027. Offered by the Canon Collins Trust in partnership with the Tom Queba Memorial Fund and Pegasys, this scholarship supports outstanding young South Africans pursuing postgraduate studies that contribute to social and environmental development. The programme aims to nurture future leaders committed to creating positive change and improving the lives of disadvantaged communities across South Africa.

Program Benefits

Selected scholars will receive financial assistance of up to R85,000 to support their studies, with funding available for a maximum period of two years depending on the duration of the programme. Recipients will also benefit from leadership training, mentorship opportunities, participation in the Canon Collins annual scholars’ conference, and access to a broad professional network of current and former scholars dedicated to social change.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be black African or coloured South African citizens who are ordinarily resident in South Africa. Candidates should be under the age of 34 at the time their studies commence and must possess, or expect to obtain, a strong undergraduate degree equivalent to at least an upper second-class qualification. Applicants must either be applying for admission or already enrolled in an Honours or Master’s programme at a South African university. In addition, their chosen field of study should demonstrate a clear commitment to advancing social justice, equality, or environmental sustainability.

Eligible Countries

The scholarship is open exclusively to citizens of South Africa who are residing in the country and meet all the eligibility requirements outlined by the Canon Collins Trust.
